The Renewables Side Indaba, part of the esteemed Africa Energy Indaba, 25, unites the private sector, bringing commercial buyers and sellers of solar and wind energy under one roof. The continent holds abundant resources in wind, solar, hydro, and geothermal energy, with falling costs making renewables increasingly accessible.

The Renewables Indaba invites manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, service providers, investors, developers, and operators from around the World to attend. This event expands the Africa Energy Indaba footprint, leveraging the strong renewables base to give added impetus to Africa’s solar and wind opportunities.

The Kavland in collaboration with Silk Road Source and other partners, focuses on key topics in the African renewables revolution. It aims to bring together project developers, financiers, and decision-makers to unpack opportunities and delve into the hottest renewables markets across the continent. With a spotlight on green hydrogen, renewables value chains, financing strategies, grid upgrades, and decentralized renewable energy, the Renewables Indaba offers a unique platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and exploring. As part of the Africa Energy Indaba week, it benefits from the established IPP & PPA Side Indaba, attracting various industry stakeholders.

AFRICA’S SOLAR ENERGY POTENTIAL IS IMMENSE!

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), if all African energy-related development goals are achieved on time, the continent could be generating 80% of its power needs from solar, wind, hydropower and geothermal. The IEA Sustainable Africa Scenario further predicts that Africa’s electricity demand could increase 75% by 2030 with renewables, mainly solar photovoltaic, accounting for most new capacity additions aimed at meeting it.

• Africa has the world’s greatest solar energy potential

• Investment is needed to harness this solar energy potential in Africa

• Africa is one of the regions most at risk from climate change, although it only emits 4% of greenhouse gases emissions globally

Africa owns 40% of the globe’s potential for solar power yet it only inhabits 1.48% of the total global capacity for electricity generation of solar energy.

Africa’s wind energy potential is enough to power the continent’s current demand 250 times over yet only 0.01% of this vast potential has been developed.

We need to take advantage of the Kalahari and Sahara desert to enhance energy harvesting and feed it to the grid to help meet energy need in Africa. Wind turbines can equally be erected in the same deserts to take advantage of the enormous wind flow for energy generation.

Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC)

GWEC is a member-based organisation that represents the entire wind energy sector. The members of GWEC represent over 1,500 companies, organisations and institutions in more than 80 countries, including manufacturers, developers, component suppliers, research institutes, national wind and renewables associations, electricity providers, finance and insurance companies.

The members are also all of the national wind industry trade associations, from both established and emerging markets, including the world largest markets of the United States, all the European markets, India and China.

GWEC works at the highest international political level to create a better policy environment for wind power. GWEC and its members are active all over the world, educating local and national governments and international agencies about the benefits of wind power.

Working with the UNFCCC, REN21, the IEA, international financial institutions, the IPCC and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), GWEC represents the global wind industry to show how far we’ve come, but also to advocate new policies to help wind power reach its full potential in as wide a variety of markets as possible.

Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association

Promotes the adoption of renewable energy advanced technologiesand actively advances the commercialization of the Chinese renewable energy. It is the voice of the solar industry in China among other associations and thrives between policymakers and the solar PV value chain. As the member-led association for the Chinese solar PV sector, it will present over 300 organisations for the expo. Collaborating with Kavland, our mission is to create enabling regulatory environments and enhance business opportunities for solar in Africa but as an alternative source of energy. Our policy experts lead workstreams that bring solar organisations together to better understand and influence priority issues and legislation that impact solar development. CREIA participates in Africa Energy Indaba and will enter into partnership agreements with African governments and associations worldwide.
